the medical team
Chris Parsons is the team doctor. He monitored and supported all of the climbers and their buddies throughout all stages of their training as well as during the climb itself. Otherwise known as Dr Chris (see the blog), the film crew are still trying to persuade him that a glittering TV career awaits!
76 Harley Street, The Centre for Health and Human Performance, was founded by Jack Kreindler in 2007. Its ethos is to help people achieve what they otherwise could not, from helping the very sick to get fit enough for life-saving surgery to enabling those wishing to reach new heights in performance and fitness. Its involvement in and sponsorship of this challenge was a wonderful opportunity to support, work with and climb alongside an extraordinary group of people, helping them enjoy this great challenge in safety and achieve more than would otherwise have been possible.
Jack also continues to practice and teach emergency medicine part-time at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, London, but can frequently be found working at high altitude as an expedition medic, endeavouring not to become a casualty himself, with varying degrees of success!
Laura Jackson is another member of 76 Harley Street and currently works in acute care/anaesthetics. She has a special interest in high altitude physiology and, as a keen mountaineer, has succesfully climbed and led groups in the Tian Sian, Himalayas, Andes, Alps and Atlas Mountains. She also makes sure that Jack survives all expeditions and patches him up as necessary!
the expedition team
The Expedition Project Management Company Ltd (EPM) was established in 2007 by Steven Ballantyne. Steven has extensive knowledge of developing countries and EPM focuses on projects consistent with the Japanese concept of Ikigal: That which makes life worth living - the process of cultivating one’s inner potential to realise that which makes life significant. EPM creates and leads unique expeditions and adventures and delivers high quality logistical support - no matter how remote the location - both on time and to budget.
Steven found working with the climbers and supporting this unique initiative a tremendously rewarding experience. From initial selection to the climb itself, their sheer determination to work together to succeed not only personally but also as a team was truly inspirational.
